6.9 idi correct timing nightmare (im a new kid)

Im new to the forum, ive been reading this forum for a minute, I have a 86 idi and im pulling teeth trying to figure out why im having a hard time getting the pump gear, and the cam gear to line up with the timing marks on the harmonic balancer. I removed the pump gear, and cover, matched up the (Ys) I used a mirror to find on the cam gear. Now that I found it, I marked it witb paint, but Ive been turning the crank by hand, but I swear its not moving.I know its 2 to 1 , but somethings wrong.I drove the truck the same day I started this nightmare. PLEASE help
