89 F250 with 460 problems
Hello,
I recently bought an 89 f250 with the 460 motor, it only has 79,000 original miles. However when I first got it, the pickup was idling rough, stalling out on acceleration and dying at stop signs and red lights as well as running rich. I went through and changed the fuel filter, the coolant temp sensor, idle air control valve, map sensor, fuel pressure regulator and cleaned the throttle body. This took care of the rough idle and stalling it runs very smooth now and increase fuel mileage as well as increased the performance a bit.
however, there is still something not quite right. On a cold start it runs perfect and no issues. But once the engine gets to normal operating temp and I stop somewhere when I come back out and start it, even though it starts right up it will die on me. Sometimes a couple of times it doesn’t matter if I rev it up or not, it will happen both if just idling in park or if I put it in gear. Seems like it is probably still an air/fuel problem but I’m at a loss of what it could be at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m at a point where I’m not wanting to put too much more money into this thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
