99 F-350, cruise and 4wd help
hi. ive been searching for information, but it seems, every resource i find, including the haynes manual, doesnt seem to specifically refer to this truck.
I just purchased a 1999 F-350 dually, 4x4, with the 7.3 V8 diesel,from the RV store i work at.
its been used hard, but runs solid and apart from a crushed bed, in pretty good shape. however, it has a few nagging problems.
1, the 4wd packed up, while back. the transfer case motor was suspected, i had nothing to do with it, and they removed it, then subsequently lost it, but is this likely to be the problem? i can lock the hubs into 4wd and it will work, but i have no electronic control of the system, no function from the switch, no high or low, unless you manually switch it. every now and then, when you start, the instrument lights will come on, but not every time.
i have checked the fuses and replaced relays, but nadda. any suggestions as to where to start?
2, the cruise control is not working. i was told it did, but was 50/50 sometimes. well its never worked for me. i cant seem to figure out this system though. the manual shows it to be mounted by the dash fan housing, but i have nothing there that looks like what haynes say, i have a black unit, with vacuum lines comming from it, and appears to be one missing, is this for cruise control? if not, where is the module and any suggestions as to what could be the problem? all fuses check out. i have voltage to and from the switch. but nothing, doesnt even turn on. or at least, doesnt say it is on, ifit does.
3. these are more just annoying since they are there, but inoperative, but the overhead display doesnt work at all, and the door locks wont work. i reprogrammed the system, so the remote is working. if you hit the lock or unlock button, you hear the actuators try. i have good voltage to each actuator, but they wont lock or unlock, they try, you can see the lock move a little, would this just be weak motors?
i probably sound new, well i am, but i have never owned a Ford truck before this, and never had a diesel before now. so im still trying to find my way around it all. if i can find the correct parts, i can diagnose them, its just figuring out which does what in the mass of vacuum lines and wiring harnesses under that hood.
any help would be appreciated. also, anyone got a good bed for sale??
thanks
