Default 99 F250 SD Cruise Control problem

Does anyone know what might be wrong with my cruise control? I turn it on and when I push the set button, or decel button, or resume button, the cruise light blinks on the instrument cluster, but it does not stay on and the cruise does not hold. If it hit any of these buttons again, it blinks, but won't stay. If I hit the off button it doesn't blink any more when I hit one of the buttons. I know the fuses are good, the on/off switch is working, but I can't figure out what is not allowing the cruise control to set correctly and stay. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the help. I replaced the brake pedal position switch, so I know that's not it.
Thanks,
Kevin

Mine is doing the same thing. Check to see if you have a brake release switch. Mine was installed by the dealer but is in fact and aftermarket setup. My switch came loose and caused the same problem.

I've had my 99 SD F250 since 98. I remember there being a recall for the cruise control. Did you have that done?

On the front of your brake master cylinder is a sending unit.
It has failed and is possibly filling with flamable brake fluid.
On mine, brake fluid poured out through the electrical contacts when I unpluged it.
Even if you had the recall work done to your vehicle, it does not fix this problem.
I had the same problem and noticed brake fluid drops on the wiring and inner fender directly below this sending unit.
I suspect this is the culprit of all the mystery Ford fires from the cruise control.
A new and improved sending unit is about $35.00 and only takes a minute to install.
Anybody with a ford truck should replace this sending unit as it is a time bomb.
