Default '99 SD F250 Diesel Mileage?

I'm looking at getting a 99 F250 Powerstroke 4x4 with the 7.3 motor.

How is the stock mileage city and highway? is it worth getting cool air intake and a programmer?

On another note, how does the auto transmission run? and how many miles do most expect out of them before havin to have a rebuild or replacement?

Any help would be appreciated!

It would help to know gear ratio. With 373's you should get 14-15 city and 16-17 hwy. Lots of factors have an impact on fuel milage, tire size, driving habits, where you are at, etc. If your looking to justify a programmer and/or cold air intake with fuel mileage, my experience has been that you probably wouldn't see enough to warrant this (1mpg). If you want to tell the wife it's for fuel milage, thats a different story. The auto tranny works well. Once again I don't think there is a standard mileage for repair or replacement. Most of it depends on how it is used or abused.
