Default Newbie question about diesel with high mileage

I want to look at this2002 Ford F250 4x4 SuperCab Lariat v7.3 Diesel. I have never owned a diesel and have a few questions.

I have only seen pics (pics posted on bottom) on the web and it looks very clean. It looks like the guy had it detailed because the engine look very clean and it has214,000 plus miles.

My questions are:

1) I know 214k miles on any truck is a lot but aren't diesel known for have high miles?

2) What should I look for when looking at the truck? (engine wise)

Edmunds prices it at $11K-$12500. He isasking $9200

this is what he has listed for the truck

they are gas gusslers fun to drive but expensive . if it was propaly maintaned you'll get a million miles on it but the oil changes and air and fuel changes are expensive about 500$ every 5000 - 6000 miles . the 7.3 is the best engine internationial built the 6.0l has had a lot of problems so the 7.3 will be desirable for a long time.

Expect 16-19 mpg hwy. The oil changes aren't that bad but you will have to expect it to be higher than a gas engine. A good Wix 51734 oil filter is about $13 and it hold 15 quarts of 15W40 oil. I run Rotella and have had very good luck with it. Fuel filter needs to be changed every 10K miles and they are about $30 for a Wix. I change oil ever 5K miles on mine and fuel filter every other oil change. Oil change which I perform myself costs about $75 and a little over a $100 for oil change and fuel filter change.

Try to find out the history of the truck. The 4R100 is a good transmission but Ford didn't put a big enough cooler on it and with excessive towing they wear out quickly.

The clean engine in the pic is the result of a de-greasing, power wash, and silicone spray to make everything shiny and wet looking.
