'99 Transmission problem roomer
I am looking at buying a 1999 F-250 7.3L but a friend of mine said that I should get a 2000 instead because the transmission in the 99 can’t handle the power as much. That worries me because I will probably be getting a Banks kit and a lift and tires. I’m just wandering if this is true or not? He heard this from a friend of his. I was wandering if it was just overheating problems or if it was more than that. If it just has overheating problems, can it be fixed simply by putting a second trany cooler on the truck? Need some input soon because I may be buying the truck soon. Thanks.

RE: '99 Transmission problem roomer
Units built prior to 2/6/2000 had a smaller cooler, Ford released TSB 00-24-4 for a replacement cooler to be installed to correct the issue.. Not all overheated, or were replaced, but trucks used in severe duty might heat up, especially when backing heavy loads.. 4R100's can be built to be pretty solid, and in their stock profile are adiquate, even more so if kept cool.. And 'regular' services will extend their life from degraded fluid.. I've built plenty of 4R's, and would have no problem going with a 99 MY, especially if it wasn't a high mileage unit, and looked to be cared for/serviced..
