Default Clunk , binding pop noise in front (4x4 F250 Diesel 2002)

I am glad to find this great site. Hopefully I can share with you ideas that have helped me however I am in need or your expertise.

Everytime I get a popping noise, sometimes a binding pop when a turn my truck to the right or left when driving. The is especially true when driving out of my driving and the truck is turning at an angle. I feel the noise coming against my feet on the driver side on the floor. When it pops it seems that it is something just under where my left foot is on the floor. I have replace the shocks, the upper and lower ball joints, the stabilizer bars, and in a desperate state the leaf springs on both sides. Still have the problems and sounds as if it is getting worse. The mechanic says everything looks ok. I have always greased all the tie rods and idle arms and they don't seem loose or have play.

I have 102,000 miles on my truck. This started at 95,000 and has just gotten worse over time.

Any help at all is appreciated.

Waht year is your truck? Sounds like a possible candidate for radius arm bushings. Sometimes they look okay, but the plates where they attatch are messed up.

Thank you for your suggestion. I know what tie rods and idle arms are but I am not familiar with a radius arm. Do you have a pic or idea where I see one to locate it on my truck?

I have 2002 model. The poping noise sounds like it is just under the brake pedal below the floor where the front leaf springs are. Is the radius in that area or near the tie rods at the very front?

Is there an accompanying jerk along with the pop? Sometimes the slip yoke on the driveshaft will run dry and cause a 'pop' on launch (Ford TSB)from driveline load that can feel like its forward of the shaft being transfered up the driveline.. Also, have you checked the cab mounts, and the cross members attachment points for tight? The S/D doesn't have radius arms..

I have this problem as well in my '99 V10. Im wondering if it is in the front axle/hub area. My fwd kicks in and out if i dont manually lock my hubs in. In order for me tolock in the driverside, i need to use channel locks because it is so hard to turn. Also now i am hearing a squeak about every 1 tire rotation in the front end. I have about 131,000 on it

Ok, i got it......check to see if your hubs are locked in manual or possibly in between manual and Auto. Since mine is very hard to turn (i have to use channel lock pliers to turn it) i dont think i unlocked mine all the way....I locked them back in and then unlocked them and turned as far as i can possibly go and now the squeak and the popping noise is gone.

Also, how hard is it to replace the hub (just the part that you turn to manually lock them in?)

Easy..

See the snap ring on the hubs face inside the bore.. Squeeze it together and/or roll it out of the groove.. The hubs sometimes are bit of a tight pinch in the bore, and you may need some soft jaw pliers to work it back and forth as you pull..It's a self contained hub...

Do i just pull that out and put the new one in? or do i need to put new seals and stuff in? Should just be about a 5 min. project or so?
