Default Dually tire question

I have a 1999 F350 Crewcab LWB 4x4. I now have 255/85/16 on 6" rims.
I have about a 1/2" between the dual wheels.
Question: It's hard and expensive to get the 255's. I'd like to use 265/75/16. I've been told that they would rub and cause the rear tires to blow. I've read other post were people do use 265's with no problems. I like the fatter bigger look like the 255's. What should I get. Could I use a spacer in between the duals???
