Default F-250 fuel mileage

I recently purchased a 2006 F-250, Supercrew, with the 5.4 gas engine. I have been checking my fuel mileage periodically, and I am averaging about 12-13 mpg. Can you recommend anything to help with the mpg (Superchip, exhaust, etc.)

Drive like there are eggs under the go-pedal. Thats about all you can do.

Don't think that you bought the wrong truck though. The 6.4L diesel is getting the same if not less than what you have.

I have a 1997 F250 HD with a 7.3 PS and 410 rear end and I get 16mpg around town and 20 on the highway. Man and I thought my mpg sucked. I won't say a thing ever again.

Default Gearing Change?

Is it true that if you change the gearing from 4:10 to a 3:73 the tow rating goes down a little but your MPG goes up a little. I may have it bassackward but just a thought.
