Fuel Filter and Fuel Mileage
While working on my "TRAC OFF" issue, I figured I may as well replace the fuel filter since it sets right by the ABS module. My van has 58,000 miles on it and has no drivability issues. I pop the old filter off and empty it out into a container. The fuel that came out looked like creek water during/after a rain. All kinds of crud in it, and this is a vehicle with a plastic fuel tank. This crud has come from the gas stations that I have used over the years locally and while traveling. Anyways, after replacing the fuel filter I have gained about 1-4 MPG depending on where I am driving without changing my driving habits. If anybody is interested, I can post a pic of the fuel from the old filter.
Fuel filter location is as follows: Go to the middle of the driver door. Go under the van to the inside of the frame rail just behind the ABS pump/module. Inertia switch is located just to the lower right of the jack. I just unplugged it and ran the van down to a sputter to relieve the pressure. Need a line wrench to release the line springs for the fuel lines. Filter just slides forward out of the plastic retaining bracket. I'll pop a pic on as soon as possible of the contents of my fuel filter.
