Default f-250 Starting Issue

Im working on a 1988 ford f250 with the 460 and 5 speed. For the past few years we have had to pump the clutch to get it to start. But now that doesn't work, We have to jump the starter solenoid. Any ideas on what it could be?

There should be a safety switch activated by depressing the clutch pedal. Look for it and chances are it either needs to be adjusted or replaced. That switch is there to prevent anyone from starting the vehicle while in gear with the clutch engaged.

I would look down by the clutch pedal assembly. The switch on my 88 Ranger was located on the clutch pedal rod. The F series may be the same.

Here's a picture of the 1988 F-250 "Clutch Pedal Position Switch".

I found it, put a new one in and its still not starting correctly. I believe that it is in the switch, I know that the safety switch was bad. Is there a way to make it so i can put a push button start on it? and make it so you have to have the key turned?

The idea was to keep the starter from engaging with the clutch engaged while the vehicle was in gear.
Did you check and see if there is voltage going into the switch and then out when the pedal is depressed?
