Filters...
Sometimes a little history helps.
There are a few filter manufacturing companies.
A manufacturer will make filters for several customers according to the specs and quality the customer requires.
OEM usually have pretty strict requirements and have to pay extra for that better quality which gets passed onto the ultimate consumer.
Some companies will offer different grades ,quality, efficiency, etc to compete with the competition.
Sometimes advertising might make a low grade filter look good.. Advertising was cheaper than paying for quality and quantity sold was what counts.
There are good filters out there that can be a little less expensive than OEM, and reputation can help make a decision easier.
Suggest you check the country of origin when purchasing filters. Your local shops will be able to tell you which worked best for them.

I mean Purolator has been around as long as some others and seem to be a possible less expensive alternative.
Ok...I understand you are suggesting to check the origin of the filters. Can you explain what that has to do with whether the filter is good or not?
As you look around on a vehicle you will find many parts have different country manufacturers name stamped on them.
These auto companies use generally the cheapest source they can find for a lot of parts installed on them. They no longer care about longevity of a part but it's about the bottom line out the door.
I was just wondering if anyone has used alternatives to oem products with good luck.

Junk imported filters become unglued with the slightest moisture, just what one would want for their air filter. One example , other problems , they collapse and the only way you find out is when you remove it and the damage is done..
