Front Tow Hitch , on a 97 F 350 , HELP at boat ramp ?
1997 FORD F 350
5.8 GAS - WINDSOR ENGINE
REAR WHEEL DRIVE ( NO 4/4 )
Long bed
8 lugs with proper rims can handle duel wheels , ( Don't know gear ratio) .
Mud tires for traction
Primary use is too tow boat ( RARELY ) boat kept wet slip marina
Towing capacity 11500 fine on the straight , but not enough rear end torque too pull from a dead stop up a steep boat ramp
At present marina there is a Public boat ramp
Steepest incline I have ever seen ,
I carry a rusted fuel tank . ( not used for gas )
When I have plans of pulling boat I fill the tank with 100 gallons of water
gives me ( 800 lbs) weight ( just in case ) over rear axle ,
Recently tried pulling boat out , NO GO ,
Needed aide of another truck with chains
MY QUESTION
FRONT BUMPER HITCH MOUNTED TOO FRONT FRAME ( same as rear )
ENGINE WEIGHT COULD GIVE ME THE TRACTION I NEED
WATER TANKS ON REAR for additional 800 lbs of weight )
REAR WHEELS MAKE IT 60 % UP RAMP THEN SPIN, going no were, no 4/4
for front I am in a holding position sliding too the side
WHAT IF I REVERSE THE PROCESS
IF I HOOK TONGUE OF TRAILER TOO FRONT TRAILER HITCH REAR WHEELS HAVE A RUNNING START of 20 FT before I even move
WEIGHT IN FRONT ( ENGINE ) GIVING ME TRACTION I NEED ,
ONCE OVER THE TOP ON LEVEL GROUND HOOK UP BOAT TOO TOW NORMAL ??
ANYBODY KNOW OF THIS PROCESS ?
WAISTING MY TIME ?
$ 180 bucks for the hitch
If I hit the lotto a new F 450 monster truck would be nice but until this happens
my 1997 F 350 with only 200 thousand miles is all I have too work with

Welcome to the site..
Since the assist truck was ‘chained up’ guessing it was non 4x as well, but if it needed need chains to get enough traction to pull you both up the ramp, I’d doubt a forward hitch pull would be able to accomplish your need. More so if the ramp was wet from prior traffic.
What’s the weight of the boat? How long is the steepest part part of the ramp?
