Default Mpg 460

I just picked up a 88 f350 mason dump with the 460. I replaced break lines and still have exhaust leak or manifold to fix. I was wondering what you could do to improve mpg? Do chips work? Maybe headers? Any tips on where to start? Would removing the cat help at all?

When i first started working on my engine, just think of it as a vacuum, the more air it can get in, and let out, the better. I would no doubt put a cold air intake, spectre brand aint that expensive, as far as exhaust goes, the higher the velocity, the better the performance. Period. so Headers are good, get long tubes for the best velocity. If you wanna get better mpg, torque, and low end hp, then you wanna add velocity. Things like bends in the pipes, Cats, and mufflers slowdown velocity, as well as huge pipes, I would no doubt get at least aftermarket long tubes, high flow cat, or just take it off, and a performance muffler, the lower the chambers the better. As far as chimps go, you might get a lil better like maybe, maybe 1 mpg more, i have an 85 f150, and exhaust and cold air helped alot.

i agree with americanfisher but i would also get a swirl type throttle body spacer, it increases velocity of incoming air and is a little more efficient
