Im looking to getting b/w a '94 and '97 f250 or f350 with the 7.3L. i was wondering what they normal mpg is whether it is stock or lifted? also what is normal diesel engine life for the 7.3? ive been hearing between 400,000 -800,000 miles. any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 1994 F-350 IDI turbo diesel crew cab dually. The guy I bought it from over a year ago said that he rebuilt it at about 185,000 miles. It had 221,000 miles when I bought it. I don't know why he needed to rebuild it at 185k, either. Could be that he didn't do much maintenance on it (it was really trashed out - used and abused - when I got it), so that might have been the problem. The E40D was (represented to have been, that is) rebuilt at about 200k, but I had to get it rebuilt in May (about 20k miles ago).
The other one I have is a 1996 P/S F-350, crew cab, and it has 291K miles on it. It sounds good, and runs good once it gets moving from dead stop. Don't know what that issue is yet, but it accelerates like a raped ape once rolling.

350,000 to 400,000 is realistic as long as maintenance has been done and not a lot of abuse. In New England (cold temp) 15/16 mpg winter and 18/20 during warm weather.
