Default New Member need help with ECU 96 F250 5.8

Hello, first post here I am helping a friend so i may not have all the information needed immediately.

What we have is a 1996 f250 with a 5.8 and a zf trans. We cannot get the truck to run correctly and are needing to find the correct part number for the ECU to locate and order.

Here are a few part numbers we have f5tz12a650bbc is the ECU the dealer provided us and we think it is incorrect as we have tried a couple. f5tf12a650bbcmr is another ecu number we have and aren't sure if that is correct either. This may be the "calibration" number 5-52j-r10. Here is the vin as well 1fthf25hotla64909

We just need the correct part number for the ECU some of the information I provided may be incorrect as i am just relaying the information. Any help is greatly appreciated!

This should help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,replacing a ECM on a whim is not a wise decision ,,, unless you know for sure. There is another consideration,,, if there s a problem that ruined the ECU and you just install another one,, the replacement can be ruined too.

If you want to, please list the present problem and maybe we can suggest some things to check before possibly replacing a good part. What do you think?

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention the harness that he is using never came with the original ECU. He says he has tried three separate ECUs and only one would run the truck.

The one that ran it was only for a few seconds. I think he just needs the right part number for the correct ECU to use so he isn't guessing. Thanks.

Pretty sure if you supplied your vehicle ID # to a Dealership Parts Dept they would be able to tell you the correct part # for the ECM.

That's what we had also thought.

I would first remove the ECU's cover to see if there are any bulged out or leaking capacitors. There should be three of them. The ECU's are very reliable. It would be on the bottom of the list as far a possible cause for your issue.
