New Member w/several issues w/'97 f250HD
Greetings to Everyone at the Ford Forum.
Am looking for help with a transmission shifting issue with my '97 F250HD with the 7.3 diesel and E40D, I believe. Bought this truck used about 4 years ago, and it is starting to require a bit of work to keep it going.
The issue is a flashing Overdrive light and harsh shifting. The scan shows codes; P1748-EPC Fault, and P0344-Cam Position Sensor Intermittent. I understand that the harsh shifting may be the transmission trying to protect itself in "limp mode," and that the issue could be in the wiring to the Line Pressure Solenoid.
Today I slide under the truck to inspect the wiring and connectors, and found a dangling, rectangular box. It is about 4 5/8"L x 3 3/4"W x 1 1/4" deep, and it is plugged into the wiring harness that is routed to the solenoid on the transmission (passenger side) and perhaps to other electrical components somewhere in the front of the truck. The case for this box is corroded and split open on one side. Granular debris is coming out of it, and it looks like it had been attached to the frame with some type of adhesive.
The person that I bought the truck from had added quite a few aftermarket parts, so I am trying to determine is this is a stock or an option? He is no longer able to provide me with information about the truck.
Am hoping that this may be the culprit, but at this point, don't know what this part is.
I really appreciate any help that the Members may be able to provide, and I know that a picture might be required. Thanks in advance!
