no start

Default no start

im working on a 96 powerstroke and have ran into a problem . i ran a scon on it and came up with P0340, and P0344 which is the cam sensor. i replaced cam sensor and it ran even worse than before i replaced it then it just died and will not start at all . ran codes again and came up with same codes am stumped any help would be appreciated. thanks

If you have/are using a scan tool, go into the data steam PIDS and monitor the RPM while cranking.. If there is no signal, (340/344 are circuit malfuntion/intermittent codes) check the CMP connector first for bad/loose/pushed out pins.. Also, check the connectors signal return (LB wire) to ground (key off) with a DVOM and it should be 5 ohms or less.. Then check the VREF (key on) wire (BR/W) to ground for a reference voltage of 5 volts.. And the (DG) wire (key on) for battery voltage.. If not within spec, you may have a bad connection/circuit.. Start looking towards the engine/bulk connector and its pins for any wire chaffing/corrosion/pins on up to the PCM.. You may want to have a look at the PCM connection for any bad pins ect at any point as well.. A breakout box would be ideal here for testing to eliminate wiring/circuit issues, but can be done manually by ohm testing the PCM connector 'on through' to the CMP connection by wire color.. Was there any spacer/shim on the flange of the original CMP? Was it OEM? Any 'contact' on the face of the new/old CMP sensor? By eliminating the possibility for PCM/Circuit failure by first testing the CMP circuit/connection for spec. readings may help to isolate the problem prior to any further pinpoint testing parts replacement ect..

tested all connections all are within specs. there was no shims or spacers on cmp yes it was oem nothing on contact of old or new cmp. could i have just gotten a bad new cmp

Were you able to check to see if the PCM is getting an RPM reading with a scan tool? Is there any tach needle movement while cranking? Chances of a bad new CMP are slim, reject OEM pieces are certainly not unheard of though, and stranger things can happen even with OEM parts.. But, to know what the PCM see's for a cranking engine speed if any would help diagnose the problem.. Especially for the P0344 intermittent fault code.. Did you swap the 2 CMP's back out...

turned out it was the oil reservoir was empty filled it up started right off
