Default Odometer rollback? Give me ya 2 cents!

Think the odometer was rolled back? It’s a 1999 f250 3 owners the numbers to me just don’t look straight as if someone tampered with it

Sometimes the odometer does kinda look funny even though no one has tinkered with them.

Things like wear on the pedal pads , thorough examination under the vehicle can reveal if it has seen a lot of miles.
Can we ask where did you purchase the vehicle, private, dealership etc.?

Private party. Yet to buy it. Just really concerned about odo rollback since the numbers are so off line. I’ll check the other tell tale signs.

truck has 159k on the 6.8L v10 for a great price. I know I should be thankful for the asking price being so low, but also raises some flags.

what do you think?

Any supporting docs that would track mileage gains? Or, ask who/where prior services or repairs were done if known. Sometimes outfits like Carfax etc can help with historic mileages if work data was collected. Like hanky mentioned, generally the body/chassis, paint conditions, interior/seating conditions ,and engine bay parts replacements can tell a story..

Default History

The current owner has had it for 16 years and says he put on 13k (now 159k), replaced the fuel pump, replaced the fluid in the front differential, transmission, and rear differential. But zero receipts! Said he bought it from his neighbor and wasn’t provided any receipts. So zero service records. The undercarriage looks like it’s been in snow and salted roads. No rust cancer or bubbles on the paint around the fenders. Just not feeling great about it.

Have you considered having a good shop check it over for you, might be worth the charge.

Default Shop look over

I did this once with an rv I bought. The shop did a crap job or knew the guy because after I bought it so many things went wrong with less than 500 miles. I pretty much have a terrible memory of it so I just rather use my own judgement and the shared internet knowledge. $100 for the pre purchase inspection quote btw.

Sorry about your bad experience with the shop you chose.

There is a difference between a shop and a good shop. How did you manage to chose the bad shop you chose?
Most shops , once they know you , will do a decent job. If you just picked any ole shop , they couldn't care less.
As you acquire increased knowledge on what to look for, you can inquire a good shop's opinion based on their experience and what you feel might become a concern up the road.

Default Good shopp

This was before the days of smart phones and apps that allow people to leave reviews. Basically just called around and asked what their service entailed. Choose the best one in cross my fingers and hope for the best. Now are use yelp and go to the top five rated shops and then call around asking them what they do for their pre-inspection. But still gives me a lot of doubt. Oh well… I guess there’s a lot of value in buying a brand new car even though they cost an arm and a leg. Did you get a brand new unit and you know what kind of maintenance goes into the vehicle.
