outside temp and miles per gallon console

outside temp and miles per gallon console
I have a ford f 350 with a console on the ceiling above the windsheid. The miles per gallon part of the gauge isn't even close. I know that you can push the two buttons and reset it but that dose not make it work right. It runs off the main computer. Is there a way to set it correctly so it reads the fuel consumption and the miles traveled.
