Default Overdrive button on shifter died. Any ideas?

I have a 2000 F-250 7.3 diesel that hauls my race car trailer like it wasn't there. I recently found that the overdrive cancel switch on the shifter has stopped working. I checked fuse #19 and no problem...bought and installed a new button/switch...nothing. I found that the wire coming out of hte base of the shifter was chaffed...replaced the wire...check for power...still nothing. The light doesn't even come on. I'm wondering about my power control module...Any ideas? Thanks, Dwight
