Default Throttle Position Sensor

First time poster here. I have a 06 F-250 5.4l with im just about 100% certain a bad TPS. I do know how to test the senson on my old truck (94 Ranger) but the color of wires have changed. I am use to the green wire reading a range of .99v to under 4.00v at WOT. I find after probing the wires that the yellow wire gives a range of 1.38v to 4.49v at WOT. Am I testing the right wire? Are the expected voltage values the same on this truck? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

these days ,without a Chilton's/Haynes to refer to,it's a damn tough problem to solve....unless you plan on taking over to Ford.I've avoided doing that so far.

Default RE: Throttle Position Sensor

well, was i ever off on diagnosis. after purchasing a pc interface and software and taking the truck to ford twice, I think i should pass this little saga on.

Symptoms: Above 3000rpms it was stumbling, pinging, spart knock, and would shutdown cylinders 5-7 (sometimes all at once). Was getting codes 171, 300, 305, 306, and occasionally 307.

What I did: Swapped coils and sensors from bank 2 and bank 1. Installed new sparkplugs (only broke 5 and purchased $300 removal tool). Took the truck to dealer twice. On first visit was told that i had low compression on cylinder 7 and that i most likely had a burnt valve. Tool it back so they could remove the head and inspect.Instead, tech removed sparkplugs and used an "extention" to measure the height of the piston and said i has a bent rod. Recommendation? Reman engine at $6500. Brought the truck purchased head gaskets, bolts, connecting rod, etc and began tear down. After removing the oil pan, I found NO signs of any damage. Called dealer and spoke with tech, was told that the compression test he did showed "above specs" on cylinder 7. Made me think!!! Pulled piston, found a rather large porosite area that opens into all 3 ring grooves and caused the piston to fail.

Right now, I had to order a complete set of pistons from sealed power since ford has a back order of all pistons and they do not know when they will be shipped. Sounds like there is a deeper issue here andI am sorta happy that I will be replacing ALL 8.

Wish me luck and I will post my findings on the other 7 and if this fixes the issue.
