Default Transmission confusion

Hey everybody joshua here hoping to get a issue resolved first off i am not a transmission guy i can pull em and place em just dont know internals so heres my issue a buddy has a 89 F250 5.8 2WD it has the 20 bolt pan transmission code E. Needed replaced so he got one from the junkyard from a 95 5.8, 20 bolt pan, tranny code E.. Okay great! Grrr not so great his has a gear driven VSS the newer does not so questions are is there a sensor we can use in place of the gear driven? Is there maybe a piece we can put on the shaft with teeth in it? And if not ok he can deal with no speedometer but will this cause any shift issues? O man what can i do???? This dude already had me pull his old in the grass with the truck slanted im pretty frustrated at this point he is a good dude just does not at all have the means to take it to a shop.... Is there anything i can do at this point???

With no VSS and/or lack of any needed values, you'll have shifting issues. Probably the with trans range sensor/connector differences as well.m I don't believe the later tail shaft had any provision to carry a drive gear.
