Default transmission question

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus SE (FFV) and I dont have any problems as of now. I bought the car with about 26 -28 thousand miles on it. I have over 70,000 miles on it now and I have not changed my transmission fluid yet. I was wondering if I could wait until 100,00 miles to change it. My fluid is still red. I have Mercon V fluid and it takes 13.5 qts. If I change it now can this cause damage to my transmission.

thanks

Default RE: transmission question

changing the fluid will not hurt the transmission at all. do n't forget to smell the fluid, if it smells burnt then change it right away. but if it doesn't i would wait. they say to change it once every 12 months or every 40.000 mile depending on driving conditions. i hope i helped james.
