Vibration
Ok, I have a 2002 F250. About 121,000 miles on it. I have a vibration that shows up on acceleration. You can feel it most at about 40 to 50 miles an hour, and then again up around 65. There is nothing loose in the drive train like the rearend, drive shaft, u-joints, or transfer case. I have replaced the left front hub assembly. The right one needs replacing too but not as bad. I've had the tires checked and they are ok. The vibration goes away as soon as you let off of the accelerator. Any ideas?
where the tires balanced when checked? another thing try looking at the sway bar bushings or steering stableizer if equipped.do you feel it in the steering wheel? check the crank shaft pully also. let me know what you find james.
Yes the tires are balanced, when the vibration started I had them rotated and balanced. I have not checked the swaybar, and there is not a stableizer. the vibration is not felt in the steering at all. It feels more like it is in the drivetrain. Like it would be somewhere between the harmonic balancer and the front of the rear driveshaft. It is not in the rearend. I'll also check the pulley and get back.
jack the front of the truck up and check your tie rod ends. put the truck inpark and block the rear wheels, with the front tires off the ground move the tires inn and out looking at the tie rod ends themselves. let me know what you find. james i wish i could be their to help you!
Everything I checked out is fine. I guess what I'll do is pull the rear drive shaft. Put it in 4 wheel and see if the vibration is still there. If not, then it's in the rear end or shaft. If it still vibrates, then it must be in the trany or the transfer. Thanks for your help. I'll probably take it to Ford when I get a chance.
I just wanted to see if you came up with anything about the vibration i have a 02 crew cab 8 foot bed and also around 40 to 50 mph it vibrates but when you lift off the pedel it goes away. now i also did some checking into this and i have found out that the drive shaft carrier where the 2 drive shafts going to the rear are not alligned properly ford say you can shim that carrier using a max of 3 shims. now i havent tried this yet myself but im going to because it is annoying. also when i bought the truck the guy who had it be4 me had a big steel utility truck cap on it he took the cap off be4 i got the truck now when i drove the truck with the cap it did not do this vibration thing although i wasnt really paying attention for it either noticed it about 2 days after i had it. i also asked him about this and he said it didnt vibrate when he had it and he always took the truck to ford to get worked on so maybe they shimed it because of the cap being so heavy i have no clue. let me know what you find out and ill do the same thing
