I bought my truck second hand and the wheels have wheel locks. Help...help...help. I heard a rumor that a tire store might have master keys that will get them off? I heard a rumor that they can be drilled/sawed/cut off at a tire store? Since the truck is second hand I have no idea what company the wheel locks came from. Can I get them off somehow or just quickly sell the truck before I have a tire or front end alignment problem.?

 

The cheapest and easiest way I know of to get them off is to take an old socket and weld it to the wheel lock, then instert the ratchet or breaker bar and take them off. At the worst, you sacrifice 4 sockets but you have the stupid locks off.

 

Thanks for the input. I talked to a tire store and it will cost between $5-$25 per wheel lock to force them off. Plus the previous owner must have really loved these tires because each wheel has TWO LOCKS! The mechanic that was passing through the showroom to get a cup of coffee almost died laughing when he heard that.

 

I could still get them off cheaper with 8 sockets and a welder. If its just $5 a piece I would let them do it but not at $25 a wheel.

Talked to a kid worked at a tire shop said they took a socket just undersize hammered it on. Stated they had one auto dealer who bought auction autos out of CA. and had a good stream of customers with this problem.

the welding will work and5 to 25 times 8no matter how i look at it the best way if you dont mind to buy new tools is go to sears or your local parts (chain) store and get some of those bad stud and rounded bolt socets i got some for the sam reson and they work great at $25 and used them for other thing sense thennow intuction say to use whench but i used 1/2 impact and socket just be carefull not to pull the trigger wide open but works wonders

 

yeah we just break them right off the stud if the stud breaks in the process then we install a new one/.
