2006 Ford 500 SEL
I am not sure how to find out what type of transmission my 500 has. It is a 2006 500 SEL with just 80,000 miles. The other day I was driving through a pass to get home and when I got one section of the road it got steep and when I tried to throttle it up the transmission or at least I am suspecting it was the transmission started to slip, slamming into gear losing all sorts of power. kept it up until I pulled over and stopped. I started to drive again and it never did it again until I had to climb another hill to get home where it did the exact same slipping slamming into gear. What if anything should I be looking for.

The first thing to check is the fluid level. It requires that the intake snorkel be removed to see the dipstick. Check your owner's manual for the requirements. If you cannot do it have a good shop check it. It requires special fluid, the recommendation is in your owner's manual.

There are two types of transmission for this car, a 6 speed and a CVT transmission. one way to know what type of transmission you have is do you hear the transmission change gears as it shifts then you have a 6 speed. in a CVT you wouldn't hear any gear changing. please check fluid and fill as required by user manual.
