Default 500 brake lights and turn signals do not work

My wife's 2005 five hundred limited brake lights and rear turn signals do not work. When the head lights are turned on, the rear lights come on, but when the brakes are pressed, the brake lights do not come on. The middle third brake light does come on when the brake pedal is pressed but that is it. I have read that this could be an issue with the smart junction box. Anyone have any suggestions?

It is not that unusual for both bulbs to be burned out. Check them first.

I checked both bulbs and the filaments are not blown. I guess it would be cheap to change the bulbs to see what happens, but I just hate throwing parts at a problem. I may need to get an electrical schematic to chase this thing down. I was hoping someone would have already experienced this and point me in the right direction.
