My mom has a 2005 Ford Five Hundred 40k miles And the back up lights were on when in park or driving. And the dash lights did not come on. They replaced the battery and alternator. And a week later the car won’t start now. It makes clicking sounds when you turn the key. It has been connected to the computer 3 times and shows no codes.

They replaced the battery and alternator and probably never checked the battery cables and connections that connect to the vehicle..


Usually a clicking sound when attempting to start a vehicle is caused by insufficient power to get the starter to engage fully and crank over the engine so it can start running.

You didn't state the mileage, or if there were any other problems..
It could be a questionable starter, corroded cable connections or corroded cables.
There could also be a power drain that is pulling down a new battery.. All these things need to be checked .

Yes it starts with jump start drives fine but something is making the battery drain really fast.

 

Not all problems will throw a code.

Something is staying on when it should be off.
One way you can find the "Problem area" is to monitor the drain and remove fuses one at a time until the drain stops.

The preferred method is to measure the voltage drop across each fuse with engine off. One will have a much higher reading than the rest and that is the circuit you need to check further . This is what the dealership should have done.
