Ford Five Hundred loss of power
Driving home today from work when all of a sudden my 2006 Ford 500 lost power. I got it off the road and into a parking lot and it seems it would idle just fine but when I would try to give it gas, nothing at all would happen. I took a chance and turned off the ignition and turned it back on and it started right up with full power. I got home and everything seems fine. I hooked up a code reader which didn’t tell me anything unfortunately. Does anybody have any idea why this would happen and what I should repair so it does not happen again? Also… The wrench icon lit up on the dashboard when this happened. First thing I checked also was engine temperature and it seemed fine. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! Forgot to mention that this is the AWD V6 limited.

Suspect a problem with the electronic throttle control.
Once you turn the key off the computer resets and you will get no codes. You might try obtaining any info by connecting the code reader BEFORE you turn the key off.
What ever is causing the problem places the vehicle in Limp Mode and resetting the computer temporarily corrects the problem
If the electronic throttle body requires replacement, best to have qualified shop handle the job.

OK, thank you both very much! Looks to me like that is my problem. Funny thing is is that it happened only one time. The car has been fine ever since and has not showed any problem whatsoever. Hard to explain why it did it only one time. But since this car is 18 years old, I suspect that it would not be a bad idea to replace the throttle body anyways. Thank you again!
Pretty sure you known how this works, lol.
Because you are ready to "Invest " in replacing the ETC (electronic throttle control." It might not act up, but just use that $$ for something else , that is when it will let you know.
What do you think?

I'm no expert but this happened to me a few years ago. I took it somewhere, they cleaned the throttle body for $40, and it has been fine ever since. It helps to disconnect the battery for a while to let the computer reset too!
