Default radiator fans come on at start up

2007 ford 500 my radiator fans come on as soon as the car is started and ac is not working, the ac compressor is not clicking on and does not want to be charged with freon which i've done lots of times on lots of cars. the check engine light is on and codes came up for egr valve and mass air flow sensor. i spent 80 on MAS and it did nothing. these 2 problems are a month old and probably have nothing to do with the cooling fan and ac issue, i have not had the check light scanned since the cooling fans started doing this. thanks for any advice before i take it to a mechanic

Since you do some of your own car work, get yourself a code reader / scanner as a delayed Christmas gift.

You have two separate problems.I would look for a faulty/stuck relay for the fan(s). Perhaps you can swap to verify. To charge your air conditioner, you need fix the leaks and then purge and evacuate the system first with a vacuum pump. The system in working order will then hold the vacuum created by the vacuum pump. The system then will draw in refridgerant to a level where the clutch will begin to engage so that you can properly fill the system with refridgerant. You need to know the system's capacity so that you do not over charge it which is a bad thing.

Your codes have nothing to do with your fans or a/c but could be all related to each other. Posting your live data readings so that we can see them is a good place to start..

thanks raski, i'm amazed anyone reads this stuff and replies trying to help, it's a good thing. according to my manual there is no relay for the fans, i see 3 relays that are 1/2 ISO, fog lamps, ac clutch and fuel pump. then there are 4 full ISO relays, PCM relay, starter solenoid, front ac blower motor and wipers. all i see for the fans is one fuse, it's #7 60 amp and it is good, i checked it and of course the fans are always on so it's good. as far as the ac my 1st thought is recharge the freon, i have the hose with a gauge. every time i've done this it reads low and when adding freon the clutch kicks in and keep adding until it is in the good green zone. this time when i try to charge it the gauge reads in the red zone, mechanical problem so i'm thinking ok maybe the compressor has gone bad. fuse # 24 is ac clutch relay/compressor clutch and it looks good. so then i switched relay 41 (fog lamps) which is good with relay # 43 (ac clutch) and that did nothing so those relays are good. also my wife drove it off the road into a ditch with extensive front end damage 3 months ago. i had the fans and condensor replaced. the car is going to tires plus monday morning for an alignment and i told them to diagnose the fan and ac problem (if they are capable) and i will take it back to the guy who replaced the fans and condensor if that is the problem. i was also thinking maybe temperature sensors for the fans are a problem. i am working every day and don't have much time right now to figure a lot of this out. thank you for trying to help me out, i appreciate it very much, all of you

The reason your a/c gauge is reading that way is that your system has very little or all the freon has leaked out. You need to get the system repaired of all leaks, purge it and charge it to specs and be done with it. Just adding freon is a bandaid fix and you are allowing air and moisture into the system everytime you connect the hoses to charge it up.

I also find it hard to believe there are no relays for the fans. They draw a good amount of current and some device such as a relay needs to be there to handle the current.
