Default Fuel Pump Retaining Clips

Does anyone know how to get the fuel line retaining clip of the top of the fuel pump without having to buy the whole pump?

It's always nice to know what we're working on because different years used different methods to retain the lines.
Later years has a spring loaded finger type retainer and they required that the fingers be compressed so the line could be slid off. They have special tools that make this job a piece of cake. Just about all auto supply stores have /sell them. I wouldn't recommend butchering the fingers because if that line comes off when it shouldn't fuel will be sprayed all over the place and of course the vehicle will appear to have run out of gas, which it did ! I hope this answered your concern.

It is a 2001 Zx3. It appears that who ever installed the new fuel pump did not re-install the O-rings on the fuel line at the top of the pump.

I don't know if you can get those O rings from the usual auto store, but I was able to obtain them from a dealership. They are not the typical material, but must be for use with unleaded fuel. Good thing you caught that ! Must have had a heck of a leak with 40+ lbs press.

Default O-ring

It did have a heck of a leak. It was not my car, but I was able to find the old O-ring under the seat where an access panel was made.

This is what scares the heck out of us when people get into doing things they have no idea what they are doing. You saved somebody a lot of grief . Now you MUST make sure there are no leaks and the line is on correctly and cannot come off !!! Don't be afraid to give it a tug or two to insure it is firmly attached.

I was vague before, but it was my wife's son who tried fixing it. I will give the line a pull to make sure that it does not come off. Thank you!
