Default hard start when cold

after having a new rack installed in my 05 focus zx4 i am having a hard start problem when the car is cold i have to burp the throttle to make it start or it will just crank and crank after it starts there is that puff of black smoke that tells me it is loaded up. my question is how long does it take to reset the computer after the battery is disconnected? the install was 5 days ago.
thanks

I think I have been able to reset the ECU after only 30 Seconds or so after removing the battery cable, but if you have the time, might as well let it set for a while to be sure.

If you are driving it around plenty, then I would think that after just a few days the ECU should get itself sorted. In a good running car I think you really should not notice any major differences. I finally bought myself a ScanGauge so I can reset the codes on the fly without even missing a beat. But using one of those probably does not cause the ECU to reset and need to re-adjust itself so perhaps the Battery method is better for your concerns.
