Ignition/PATS system issues
Hello, looking for some advise/suggestions on the problem(s) that I'm having with an 2010 Focus that started giving me problems in regards to starting the car (from what I've gathered the design of the ignition housing or switch in particular is a common problem in this model/year as well as many other models and years that was used in).. It became more and more of an issue over the last couple months until the other day I couldn't get it to start at all no matter how much I played with the key/ignition. I don't have the money right now to take it in so was hoping that I could figure it out with a little help from others on here that know about this issue and would be willing to share what they know. Unfortunately the ignition is now not the only issue that I'm having with the Focus because after watching a couple YT videos my uncle thought he could fix it and started taking apart the ignition housing(its actually his vehicle that he was letting me use) but now I'm afraid he may have caused more problems because now the PATS anti theft system light is constantly blinking which may have something to do with the security ring that is now hanging down because it appears that a clip on it was broken when my uncle started messing with it. We tried resetting the PATS system using the door lock/key method and the leave the key in running position for 10mins method but those methods did not work, only by holding the key against the security ring did the PATS light shut off for a bit but it still wouldn't start obviously due to the original ignition issue so my uncle tried using the "hot wire" method m the fuse box to see if it would start, it would turn over but still wouldn't start even during that short period that I was holding the key against the security ring(and the 2nd key in the ignition in the run position) causing the PATS system engaged- light to disappear from the cluster panel. and now the battery keeps getting drained, we've had to charge it a couple times. I understand that the key may need to be reprogrammed and the PATS anti theft light will need to be reset but would that have anything to do with it cranking but not starting when using the hot wire and when the PATS system was momentarily disengaged? If anybody has any ideas, please let me know....Thanx!
