(!) light HELP!!!!

(!) light HELP!!!!
HI
I have a 2001 focus wagon and in the past 30 days I have had the (!) warning light come on - only for a second - but as it does the car lurches forward - again only for a second. It almost feels like the car is out of gear for a quick instant.
It always seems to happen when I'm on the highway.
It happened twice in a day, once the next day - I changed my oil and drove 1600 miles in a 7 day period without it happening again - THEN all of a sudden a week later it happens again. Days will go by without it happening. Then it will happen once or twice within 15 minutes and then be fine for a few days again.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE???
