My pickup has a very rough ride. I purchased it 12 yrs ago and previous owner put on aftermarket shocks, standard size. I tow a 26' 5th wheel and the ride is better. The rough ride hurts momma's back. My question is, are there shocks that would soften the ride? I realize the springs contribute to most of the rough ride and I can't do anything about them. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

 

It might be counter productive mileage wise, but might provide a smoother ride if you placed some extra weight in the pickup.body.

 

I would disconnect the bottom of your shocks to check if they are blown or lost resistance in any direction.. They should extend out on their own from the gas pressure inside.If they do not, the shock is bad. I have had shocks lose their gas charge but never leaked out any oil. The only way to really confirm was to disconnect one end and test.

Twelve years is a good life for a shock, yours may just be worn out.Also, make sure you do not have any broken springs.
