Default fixed a p307 and got a p308 later in the day

Hey guys I need a little help with a 2012 Expedition 8cyl,. I was throwing a code po307 the check engine light has been coming on under hard acceleration but then going off after about 30 seconds of letting up on the accelerator.

I replaced the coil on cylinder 7 and the first time I was able to accelerate hard the check engine light stopped coming on. The same day It did it again and it was back.

This time I get a p0308 code.
Could just be another coil but seemed odd. I have 130000 miles on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Tony

Clear the code and see what happens, assuming a P030X code comes back, number the coils and swap the coil with the fault code with another cylinders coil. Clear the code again and see what code come back.

Have you done a tune up recently.

Thanks Scott
Thats a good idea. I bought the vehicle 3 months ago and dont know when the last tune up was. I planned on pulling the plugs in the spring but I may go ahead and do that now. Just seemed odd that the code moved up 1 cylinder on the day I fixed number 7 lol

I would replace plugs along with COP's. Widened gaps from worn plugs will make the coils work harder, increasing the stress on them. Ignition parts many times will break down under stress like accelerating. Use only Motorcraft coils and not aftermarket ones.
In rare situations, a fuel injector can also set up a misfire code and can be swapped like a coil to troubleshoot.

Don't feel badly. Fords for some reason on some earlier models had a problem indicating which cyl actually was misfiring and threw the wrong cyl number.
If you decide to switch coils, switch with a coli from the other bank and not next to the cyl in the firing order.
