Has anybody on here changed timing chains on dohc 4.6. My question is on intake and exhaust cams there are keyways on the secondary chain sprockets and on the cams. There is no key. Ford shop manual does not mention this. The main chain sprocket on the exhaust cam has a key made into the sprocket and mates to the exhaust cam chain sprocket, but does not connect to cam except thru sprocket bolt. I had blown a head gasket and had to remove cams and chains.
Used the correct tools at rear of cams and cam holding tools. Just cannot understand why the cams are not connected to the sprockets except thru force of outer bolts. Engine is in 57 ford fairlane 2dr ht.
