04 Freestar 3.9L Lean Codes and Rough Start When Cold
Greetings,
I need some help with a problem with my 2004 Freestar 3.9L with 119k miles. I've been getting a random P0171 and P1074 codes on and off for a couple of years but never had any performance issues. Recently the lean codes have been continuous and now need to crank over the engine several times before it will fire off, and engine hesitates and stalls until warmed up. If I go from idle to WOT I will get one backfire on occasion too. I've checked for vacuum leaks (changed PCV and elbows), changed fuel filter, cleaned MAF, and corrected broken IMRC bushings. Scanner tool showing short term fuel trim #1 at 43% and #2 at 38% at cold start up. fuel rail pressure at 40 psi. Tune up was done about 3 years ago and changed wires and plugs. I checked to make sure EGR was not stuck open - it wasn't. I checked PCM connection for moisture (cleaned and installed dielectric) nothing seems to help. O2 sensors appear to be switching correctly. I can't find a port to check actual fuel pressure so I'm relying on data from scan tool. Don't know what else to do.
