Question 2006 Feestar, instrument panel removed, odomter repaired. won't tutn over? Pats?

Repaired panel reinstalled and key in start position, engine not turning over. Removal of panel has tripped PATS sytem, no ground to starter obviously. What is the relationship between PATS and the panel removal? Will reprogramming the keys solve the problem? The red security is flashing with key actuated to start.
Info on odomter repair makes no mention of this PATS situation and actuation of same?

Sometimes using the second key may permit the system to work.
Another option, since the IC (instrument cluster) is also one of the modules in the network a local locksmith with the necessary equipment can reprogram the system and keys to correct the problem and costs a lot less than having a dealership send a technician to do this.

Hi,
Appreciate your reply, in theory I should be able to reset both keys to the Pats by using the ignition in the on position, doing one key and follow with the second within a minute. I may have to have the board repaired, but first have to get the PATS recognition completed and start it. Will also check the power distribution for any blown fuses in the cicuit. Subvet

You will require a capable scan tool to do any reprogramming . If you have two working keys you can program any addl keys.

Hi,
I haven't had the time to really work on it. The problem is with the key codes and the PCM. I also notice that the odometer is also out. I will check for fuses under the hood and see if one or more are defective. If the panel odometer is truly out I will attempt to redo the solder joints, if it doesn't work I will have to get it repaired for about $50 t0 $75.00.
The panel is considered as part of the computer system and along with removal of several other parts will also create a PATS problem. No one even Ford mentions this created situation. Research it as it is interesting. If I had the time I would list the systems involved and expound on the problem. I will solve it, but need time to concentrate on it and diagnose factors. Will try to download TLC,s if possible.

100% agreed. Make sure you tell the locksmith about everything so he/she knows what they are getting into.

It's unusual, but most places will have a dealership somewhere nearby and not a qualified locksmith. In that case, one has to do, what one has to do, since one would be unable to get the computer squared away without either towing the vehicle to the tool or pay the price to have the tool brought out to the vehicle. It's a real pain, but there are times when we are left without too much choice.

Smile More Info:

Panel odometer went out after repair ?. Will send it out for repair/rehab when I locate a reputable facility, any suggestions and or experience in this regard?
In looking for info came across a Standard Motor Products: "Tech Tips" Titled" Ford Vehicle Computer Relearn Procedures" dated Spring 2005. It has an explanation of the PATS system and reviews the correct reset for repairs for the various Ford models using one of the A thru E Pats configurations, all but two are similar and may use the same reset procedure. The 2004 thru 2007 Freestar use the "E" Pats, but use the "B" PATS procedure to relearn the computer! You need to identify the PATS system used on your model from the five types. I am contacting the Standard techs for more recent info, as in the past they exchanged bad parts for new ones readily and quickly.
After I get the panel back I will try again, hopefully successfully! Apparently you can scan for PATS DTC codes as there is a list of same, none were found in my own scan. They have a B or U prefix.
First find the PATS used in your vehicle and go from there in researching the problem and resets. A Mustang may not work on an Econoline or F250!
