Default cold to hot opperating range

I have a 2006 ford freestar I seems like it take's to long for the temp gauge to move to the middle of the gauge between hot and cold doesn't seem to matter what the temp is outside obviouslly the colder it is the longer it takes. I have a ford exploder a 2000 that doesn't take that long. And seems to pump out hotter air. Anybody got any suggestions

Does the heat work better at a stop light, If it does then you need a thermostat.

Is the temperature issue different from when you bought the vehicle to now or are you just comparing the operating difference between the Freestar and the Explorer? Do you have front and rear heat in the Freestar?
