Ignition miss with no check engine light

Intermittent "Miss" under load
Have a 2006 Freestar SEL w/4.2 liter engine. It has 125K miles on it and it recently has started to intermittently "miss" under load or acceleration. No "Check Engine" light comes on. Initially was suspect of a dirty fuel filter but after reading various forums and discussions of similar problems, suspect bad coil pack, plug wires, or plugs. Two shops are quoting me around $600 to $700 to replace all three. Looks like parts would be around $150 to $200 if I did the work myself but at my age (67) am more inclined to let the shop do it. Question - Both shops I talked to quoted me a price to replace the coil and another price to replace the plugs and wires. Aside from parts and minimal labor, it seems like the labor cost to replace the coil, if you are doing the other work, should be minimal since you already have the outer and inner cowels off to replace the plugs and wires. Are they trying to rip me off by having me pay to remove and reinstall the cowel twice?

Shouldn't take more than 1.5 hours to remove the upper/lower cowl, replace the coil, replace the plugs and replace the wires, re-install the upper/lower cowl. The 1.5 hours includes a coffee break. If you don't want to do it yourself, I would find somebody who wouldn't mind doing it for a $50 thrown their way. I do it for people all the time as to me...It's tinkering and I like to tinker...
No matter who does it, make sure they apply dielectrical grease in the plug wire boot ends.
