Default P1744

Ford Freestar 2007, 4,2l 13000 miles
Can anyone explain P1744?
It came with C1730.
The little wrench will start flashing after 30-60 minutes of driving. After turning off the engine and starting it again, it won't flash until another 30-60 minutes.
The transmission doesn't jump when changing gear. If there is a problem there, I don't feel it.
Thanks

I believe it is a problem with the torque converter clutch system. Most likely not something the average person would want to become involved with.

What kind of symptoms are you getting?

I edited the text to explain the symptoms.
I need to put some money on the van. If I have to change the transmission, I'll just scrap it and get another one.

I have that little ODB thing plugged in. I reset the codes while on the highway on the cruise control. The codes reappeared five minutes later. There were no change of gear.

Can you try removing "That Little Thing " plugged into the vehicle OBD port and see if you notice anything different?
Those little Gizmos can produce some problems among which are false codes.

I plug that little thing only when I need to read a code. I unplugged it after getting the codes.
Strange thing, the little wrench will not blink while driving in town, i.e. under 35 mph.

That is when the converter clutch is supposed to lock up around 35 MPH.
Do you notice the trans making the 3 shifts before hitting 30 mph, steady easy throttle it should on straight and level road shift into 3rd before 30 and the converter lock up should feel like 4th gear around 35-37 mph. If the code is valid , you should not get that 4th shift.

Done. It changed to third at 30mph and to 4th as the needle touched the 40mph line. All smooth changes.

Maybe you could stop by an Autozone and have the codes cleared and checked by a different tool?
If all checks out OK , please consider passing on a suggestion on what tool folks might avoid, thanks.
