Default 08 Freestyle no speedometer/check brake system message

I had the rear tires replaced, about 3 maybe 4 miles later, the speedometer quit, and I got a check brake system message on the dash . It also has the ABS light on. Where would I need to start checking? It seems to operate with no trouble, other than no speedometer.

In addition, When I restarted it this morning, all was good. About half way home from church, the same scenario all over again. I stopped the car, shut it off and restarted it, all back to normal. Any ideas?

Could be a bad ABS sensor.

Does your cruise control work when the issue occurs? If not, it could be your master cylinder brake pressure sensor on its way out.

That thought occurred to me as well, just haven't had time to check it out yet.

Cruise control works, doesn't know there is a problem. Adjusts up and down, cancels, both with the brake pedal, and the switch, and re-sets.

The issue also hasn't resurfaced since Sunday.
