Question 2007 Fusion Restraints Control Module

I've got a 2007 Fusion, 2.3l, with a steady on Air Bag light. When I turn on the ignition switch, the AB lamp lights, goes off then comes on steady. I've checked the RCM fuse, (#25), and it's good. The DTC, steady lamp, indicates that the RCM is disconnected or inoperative. I suspect that the unit is defective and must be replaced. Since it's a very expensive item, I'd like to make sure that I'm not missing something. Is there anything else I should try? Is a new unit plug and play or does it need some sort of software update. Thanks for your help.

Did you have it checked for any codes and if so what codes did it display? There could be a problem with any one of the components in the system.

Thanks for replying. The dash lamp is supposed to give you a blinking code. According to the Diagnostic Trouble Code chart, when in blinks off once and comes on steady, it indicates that the RCM is disconnected or inoperative. That's why I'm pretty sure it's bad. It can't communicate. I am just trying to be sure before I spend 500 dollars.

Before you shell out the bucks, why not have someone check that the power and grounds to the module are functioning? Capable scan tool required to do this.

Good thought. So far the only capable diagnostic tool is at the dealer. I'm going to try NAPA today.
