Default 2013 Ford Fusion p0234

My 1.6L just gave the code p0234 and upon further inspection I replaced the waste gate because that seemed to be the common issue. The code went away and for several days my car was doing fine. Then it came back and my RPM would start kicking when I would get up to speed on the interstate. I’m hoping that I can replace the boost pressure sensor, but is there anything else I can do or try and look at to save money?

We can understand when $$ is tight, but you might consider what the cost could be if you had a capable shop handle the job. Keep in mind those parts are programmed to your individual vehicle and most likely will need to be programmed to work correctly.. Suggest you verify that they will need to be programmed or you could wind up spending a lot of $$ and still have the same problem. Any dealership service dept can provide you with an answer, check and be sure , OK ?

It was a DIY replacement, I didn’t pay for it to be replaced. However, when looking under the car we couldn’t find any hose leaks. I also replaced the boost sensor and it is still kicking while driving. Any further suggestions on what to do next?

PO234 Turbo overboost condition
  • Damaged turbocharger (TC) wastegate regulating valve solenoid
  • Damaged wastegate adjusting rod
  • TC wastegate regulating solenoid valve stuck
  • Wastegate stuck closed
  • Wastegate control hose open or plugged
  • Incorrect wastegate adjustment
Check tubing for obstructions, cracks and incorrect fit
