Unhappy 2013 Fusion cabin filter holder access

Ok, I let my cabin filter go too long w/o changing it so when I finally did, it had a layer of those tree "helicopters" and other debris laying on the surface probably a quarter inch deep. Since the filter slot is so narrow it scrapes some of that junk off when pulling it out, allowing it to drop down into the blower motor hamster cage. I did my best to jam a vacuum crevice tool into the filter slot to clean it out but there's no way to get down deep inside. Now when I turn the fan on I get a deep rumble sound which increases with fan speed.

Does anyone know how to take apart the filter housing to clean it out or is there a way to get a thin vacuum attachment down in there? I would think that since that stuff is past the filter it should just blow out into the cabin, right?

Changing that filter out is way more work than it should be.

If the blower motor is mounted from the inside, depending on how much room you have , you might need to remove the glove box.

Once that is done you just remove the few screws that hold the blower motor to it's housing and you should have no trouble picking out any debris in there.
You might even have room to put the end of the vacuum in there to do a better job.

Red face hanky Thanks

I took your advice and looked up how to remove the blower motor and couldn't believe how easy it was. It was full of debris, I shook it out, and now it works perfectly.
So nice when something works out and I'm learning new stuff. Thanks again.
