Question 2016 Fusion 1.5L Engine Coolant Over Temperature

I'm a newbie to the forum. I have a 16 1.5L Fusion and haven't drove it for a few days. Been 20 degrees here for days and remains at 20. Went out and started it. Immediately the fans started blowing on engine and the Engine Coolant Over Temperature message is displayed on dash. I shut it off and opened the hood. Coolant is still up. Pulled the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. Put it back on and started car with same issue. I'm assuming this is a sensor issue. I've read about Cylinder Head Temperature and Coolant Temperature sensors. In searching the web I am finding it difficult to figure out if the 1.5 in the 2016 has both, one or the other of these sensors and exactly where they are located. Anyone experience this before on a fusion 1.5? Any help is much appreciated.

Update - Scanner shows P1299 Cylinder Head Over temperature Protection Active.

Does the 2016 1.5L have a CHT sensor and if so where is it located?

If I remember correctly, looking at the front of the engine at the crank pulley, the CHT unit should be located just behind the top middle of the engine at the back toward the firewall.
The coolant temp sensor I believe was located on the same side (back of engine) toward the driver's side just below a heavy wiring harness.

If you want to make this a lot easier, pick up both so you know what they look like and that will make it much easier to find them.

Thank you, I went to Ford dealership today to give them VIN, pick up both sensors, see if they could give me an idea of where they are located. The plot has thickened. I took my endoscope and started looking at back of engine to see where things were, before taking anything apart, and found the CHT attached laying over to the side. Very strange. I've only had the car 6 months so I don't know the entire history (other than car fax). I looked for two hours and can't find where the CHT that is hanging would actually screw in. It seems too far fetched for it to have somehow unscrewd. I'm starting to get curious if possibly someone has changed out the motor or something. I think I'm going to plug in the new CHT in while it's still hanging, clear codes, and see what happens. If that doesn't fix it, I'm going to replace the Engine Coolant Temp sensor, clear codes and see if that fixes it. Then I'll continue to try to track down where the CHT goes. The pics from Ford I saw today show the CHT in rear center of motor, basically down on firewall side back of motor between cylinder 2 and 3. So you memory is good! Odd part is that the engine has no spot for that.
