Default Door Not Locking

Hello,

So about a month ago I was parking in a packed car park. I was trying to avoid the car beside me and accidentally hit a post, which put an unsightly dent in the car door.

I found a replacement door and my garage fitted it a few days ago.
However, it’s giving me some problems, the red “door open” light keeps coming on while I am driving. Also when I remotely close the door, sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn’t, it gets there eventually but.

My garage wasn’t concerned and I admit it’s not a major problem, but it annoys me.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Yes !
To do this properly, you would need to remove the interior panel covering and check inside the door to determine just why it is hanging up. It may just require some lubrication , but the best thing to do is check it all and do it once. Not a difficult job, just requires a little patience.

Thank you.

The mechanic I normally use, he said it was because the door wasn’t made in the same batch. I understand how the metal may have aged differently or worn etc. At the same time, it’s still a piece of machinery, any problem should be fixable with enough effort.

I know he is retiring soon, so I think he is avoiding awkward jobs. Don’t get me wrong, he is usually great and I’ve known him for years, but I’d just like this to be done right,

Okay I just noticed something. I was driving today and all was well, then the windows started to fog up.

As soon as I switched on the window heaters, the door lock light came on. I played around a bit, it only happens when the read window is turned on. It seems absolutely fine the rest of the time.

Could some wire have been connected to the wrong thing?

You could be more right than you think.
A lot of times when a circuit has a poor ground, it will choose another path to get to that ground connection. It is very possible the rear window defogger is using the door for it's ground path and causing the ajar lite to illuminate. The object now is to check the wiring connections and verify that.

Do you know if the replacement door was from the same year? sometimes they change little wiring stuff and that can be a problem when swapping over something like a entire door from another vehicle.
